N/NSCP teaches marketable job skills though its Youth Afterschool Project so graduates can supplement meager family incomes.
- Unemployment is double digit in Nagarote
- Participants learn tailoring, computer applications, English, and sustainable agriculture
- Some also intern at the Darling Preschool and learn valuable skills
One of our goals in developing the Youth Project is to provide job skills. Although our program includes some college scholarships, most youngsters finish their education at age 17, when they complete high school with few skills. And, in Nagarote, most job openings are filled by relatives. The kids in our project don’t have family with businesses.
But by learning tailoring, computer applications, English, and sustainable agriculture, and by interning at the preschool, most of our graduates have found jobs.
